The 2nd-year ESO students have completed an exciting Project-Based Learning (PBL) project, in which, through a creative and cross-curricular proposal with the Art and English subject, they gained an understanding of the concept of density. The culmination of this effort was the creation of a comic in which they solved the scientific problem presented to them.

From the beginning of the school year and over the course of two weeks, students tackled the challenge of understanding density and its implications through hands-on classroom activities and lab experiments.

The goal was for them to comprehend this physical phenomenon in an original way. To achieve this, they were given the problem of assisting a king who suspected that part of the gold in his golden crown had been stolen.

The students responded to this challenge by combining their physics knowledge with their artistic creativity, designing characters and scenes in a comic. The story depicted, through illustrations, how they, in the role of scientists, calculated the density of the king’s golden crown.

The project not only allowed students to deepen their understanding of the concept of density but also promoted educational cross-curricular integration by directly involving the subject of Art and indirectly English. The students received guidance from both the Physics and Art teachers to solve the challenge that the king had presented to them.

Furthermore, the results, in the form of comics, will soon be displayed in the school hallways for other students to view and appreciate the work done.

This project has shown how Project-Based Learning, combined with artistic creativity, can be a powerful tool for students to develop interdisciplinary skills while tackling scientific concepts in an accessible and engaging way.
